About the team
We are architects, researchers and designers of digitally powered health services.
We started Made Simpler in 2019 to focus on projects that help people improve their health and wellbeing
Before starting Made Simpler, we spent 20 years in the digital industry and 10 years navigating the health system with our daughter, who has CHARGE syndrome. Our experience with the challenges of complex health systems inspired us to create Made Simpler.
Today, we lead a team to create new or improve existing digital services for our health clients. We are engaged for projects that are gnarly and need creative, pragmatic solutions. Our clients include product and service owners across government, non-profits, and tech companies in health. We work with everyone, from CEOs to product teams, and are equally comfortable pitching to boards or collaborating in agile teams.
We love human-centred design and making health journeys easier. This is our passion and what will become our life’s work.

Phil Herborn

Phil loves facilitating workshops, producing executable strategies and working with clients and design teams to create innovative health solutions.
• Masters of Interactive Media, UTS.
• 25+ years in digital across APAC & UK.
• Agency and technology consultancy experience including Mirum, Webling, Tigerspike and Moon has seen him work across most major Australian brands.
• Multiple award winner for digital innovation.
Katrina Cano
User experience design · Design systems
Katrina loves simplifying complex problems through design to give people the ultimate user experience for navigating their health journey.
• Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication
• 10+ years in experience design, advertising and branding at Sydney’s leading agencies.
• Product design consultancy and agency experience across health and pharmaceutical industries.
Paula Hobley
Accessibility · Health service design
Paula loves collaborating with design and development teams to ensure that products are accessible to the widest audience possible.
• Bachelor of Social Work, University of Melbourne.
• 5 years + experience in accessibility testing of large scale web applications.
• Background in health, disability & human rights advocacy including at Barwon Health, Vision Australia and running her own accessibility consultancy.
